Here you can get general information about Petra, Jordan and Israel.

Petra is located in the Edom mountains of south-western Jordan, 160 miles (257km) south-southwest from the capital of Amman, and about 50 miles (80km) north-northeast of Aqaba. Petra site it´s open daily from 6 AM till 6 PM Airports Closest airports are Eilat (Israel) and Amman (Jordan) The airport of Ben Gurion in Tel Aviv, Israel, is situated nine miles (14km) southeast of Tel Aviv, 30 miles (50km) west of Jerusalem.

Eilat Airport (ETH) is right in the middle of the city. Flights to Tel Aviv are frequent and take only 50 minutes, but expect to pay around NIS 250 for a one-way trip. However, tourists can arrive in Eilat on charter flights via the Ovda International Airport (VDA), also known as Uvda, 65 km (40 miles) and nearly a 50 min drive from town.

What to Wear

Sportswear, baggy pants, and walking shoes are advisable. Keep in mind the relative conservatism of Middle Eastern societies. Summer evenings can be quite cool, so one should be prepared to wear a shawl or sweater. Winters are cold, windy and rainy.

Cost of entry Prices

Adults: 1 Day JD 11 (US$ 16) – 2 Days JD 13.5 (US$ 20) – 3 Days JD 16 (US$ 23) – Students and Children under 12 years: 1 Day JD 6 (US$ 8.5) – 2 Days JD 7.25 (US$ 10.25) – 3 Days JD 8.5 (US$ 12) Museums Petra Archeological Museum is located inside the site (see Petra Map & Monuments), which houses a wide variety of finds from Petra (Hours 8 AM- 4 PM) Another small but interesting museum is to be found in an unusual Nabataean structure set into the hillside of Al-Habees (Hours 8 AM- 4 PM).

Restaurants

Local Restaurants and American Style Restaurants like Pizza Hut are to be found nearby the entrance and in Wadi Mosa town. Petra also, boasts a number of hotels to suit every taste and budget where you can enjoy delicious food (e.g. Al-Iwan in Movenpick Resort and Taybet Zaman).
