Petra is located in the Edom mountains of south-western Jordan, 160 miles (257km) south-southwest from the capital of Amman, and about 50 miles (80km) north-northeast of Aqaba. Petra site it´s open daily from 6 AM till 6 PM Airports Closest airports are Eilat (Israel) and Amman (Jordan) The airport of Ben Gurion in Tel Aviv, Israel, is situated nine miles (14km) southeast of Tel Aviv, 30 miles (50km) west of Jerusalem.
Eilat Airport (ETH) is right in the middle of the city. Flights to Tel Aviv are frequent and take only 50 minutes, but expect to pay around NIS 250 for a one-way trip. However, tourists can arrive in Eilat on charter flights via the Ovda International Airport (VDA), also known as Uvda, 65 km (40 miles) and nearly a 50 min drive from town.
What to Wear
Sportswear, baggy pants, and walking shoes are advisable. Keep in mind the relative conservatism of Middle Eastern societies. Summer evenings can be quite cool, so one should be prepared to wear a shawl or sweater. Winters are cold, windy and rainy.

Customs requirements for passengers travelling to Petra

To cross over the Allenby Bridge you must hold a visa that has been issued in your country.
Ensure you arrive at the Terminal with all the required documents, including a passport valid for at least 6 months and relevant travel documents.
The custom authorities, however, require the following details:
* Passport number.
* Full name of traveler, personal and family names
* Dates of birth
* Country of citizenships as it appears in the passport.
* Photocopy of first page of the passport. (Essential)

Visiting Petra from Eilat:
You can take domestic flights from Tel Aviv to Eilat and the tour from Eilat and back to Tel Aviv the same day or staying overnight in Eilat (day before the tour and overnight in Eilat after the tour)

Customs check the validity of your passport – it must be valid for at least 6 months.
You may pay the exit fee at the bank at the Terminal or at some Post office Bank branches.

Passengers to Jordan:
Outbound passenger transit fee, purchased at the Terminal – $15, in New Israeli Shekels
Outbound passenger transit fee at the Jordanian Terminal – 5 dinar
Obtaining a visa at the Jordanian Terminal:
At the Jordanian Terminal any passenger, Israeli or foreign, can obtain, at no cost, a visa for a two week visit in Jordan, with the exception of the citizens of countries [requiring the issue of a visa in advance/ from which Jordan requires issuing the visa in advance].
The visa can be extended beyond the two weeks, at any police station in Jordan, up to a period of three months.
A multi entry visa can be obtained at the Jordanian Embassy for a period of three to six months, with no limitation as to the number of entries, at a cost of 20 dinar.
